God promised: "I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts." Hebrews 8:10 Paul describes the purpose of the gospel as producing obedience: "For the obedience of faith among all nations." Romans 1:5 John writes: "For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments." 1 John 5:3 The Christian life therefore involves both justification and transformation. We are saved by grace through faith, but saving faith produces a changed life. The Bible does not teach that human beings earn salvation by perfect commandment keeping. It does teach that God's Spirit produces obedience in those who belong to Christ.
