The Bible teaches that we are saved by grace through faith, not by earning God's favor. At the same time, God's commandments reveal His character and guide the grateful obedience of those who love Him.
Salvation has always been by grace through faith, never by keeping rules well enough to earn it — no amount of obedience can pay a debt only Christ's sacrifice can cover. Yet Scripture is equally clear that faith does not make the law void; instead, God's commandments describe what love for God and others looks like in practice. Once the heart is transformed by grace, obedience becomes a natural response of gratitude rather than an attempt to be accepted, and the Holy Spirit empowers believers to live out what the law describes rather than merely demands.
The Ten Commandments retain their moral significance, including the fourth commandment. The law is not a ladder by which sinners climb to God; it is a loving description of life with God, written on the heart by the Spirit and lived out through faith in Jesus.
