Biblical explanation
Jesus is introduced as the eternal Word who "was with God" and "was God" (John 1:1). John 1:3 says all things were made through Him. The Old Testament promised the coming Messiah. Isaiah 9:6 speaks of a child who would be called "The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace." Micah 5:2 foretold a ruler whose origins are "from everlasting." Jesus identified Himself as the fulfillment of Scripture. In Luke 4:16-21, He applied Isaiah's prophecy concerning the Messiah to Himself. Jesus' mission was ultimately centered on salvation. Matthew 1:21 says, "thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins." He died on the cross as the sacrifice for sin (Isaiah 53:4-6; 1 Corinthians 15:3). He then rose from the dead (Luke 24:1-7; 1 Corinthians 15:3-8). Jesus is now described as our High Priest and advocate (Hebrews 4:14-16; 1 John 2:1). Scripture also promises His visible return (Acts 1:11; Revelation 1:7).
Key takeaway
The great controversy reveals God's character as Christ ministers as our High Priest in the heavenly sanctuary. The dead await the resurrection, Christ's return will be visible and personal, and prophecy calls believers to faithful mission rather than date-setting or fear.
