Biblical explanation
The Bible teaches that God is the Creator of all things: "For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible." Colossians 1:16, KJV This includes the invisible heavenly realm. Genesis 1:31 says that when God finished creation: "God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good." Satan therefore cannot be understood as an eternal evil power equal to God. Scripture teaches one Creator, not two eternal opposing gods. Revelation 12 describes a heavenly conflict involving the dragon and his angels and identifies the dragon as Satan (Revelation 12:7-9). Jesus said that Satan "abode not in the truth" (John 8:44), indicating that his evil condition was not his original created state. Scripture does not give a complete chronological biography of Satan from his creation to his rebellion. However, it clearly rejects the idea that Satan is an eternal counterpart to God. God alone is eternal and sovereign.
