Biblical explanation
Revelation 12 says: "There was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels." Revelation 12:7, KJV Verse 9 then identifies the dragon: "that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan." It also says: "his angels were cast out with him." This establishes a direct connection between Satan and a group of rebellious heavenly beings. Jesus also speaks of: "the devil and his angels" Matthew 25:41, KJV The Bible therefore presents Satan as a supernatural created being who became God's adversary. The Bible does not explicitly state in one sentence, "Satan was created as an angel named Lucifer." The name "Lucifer" comes from Isaiah 14:12 in the KJV, where the immediate context addresses the king of Babylon. The broader connection between this passage and Satan's rebellion is an interpretive conclusion based on its language and comparison with other passages. The safest biblical conclusion is that Satan was a heavenly created being who rebelled against God.
