Life and Relationships

What does the Bible teach about marriage?

Marriage is God's design for a man and woman to become one in a lifelong covenant marked by love, faithfulness, and mutual respect, reflecting the relationship between Christ and His church.

Marriage is God's design for a man and woman to become one in a lifelong covenant marked by love, faithfulness, and mutual respect, reflecting the relationship between Christ and His church.

From the beginning, marriage was designed as a lifelong covenant in which two people become one, built on companionship, faithfulness, and mutual commitment rather than convenience. Paul describes marriage as a living picture of Christ's sacrificial love for the church, calling husbands to lead with self-giving love and wives to respond with respect, in a relationship of mutual honor rather than domination. Because marriage reflects something bigger than the couple themselves, Scripture treats it seriously, encouraging couples to build their relationship on shared faith, ongoing forgiveness, and ongoing investment rather than treating it as easily disposable.

Discipleship applies the gospel to the whole life: body, mind, relationships, work, finances, and worship. Healthy choices and faithful habits do not earn salvation; they are grateful stewardship of the life God has entrusted to us and practical ways to serve others.
