Jesus taught His disciples to address prayer to “Our Father which art in heaven” (). He invited them to ask in His name, and Hebrews encourages believers to approach God's throne confidently through their great High Priest (; ). Paul states that there is “one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus” (). Mary is honored in Scripture as the mother of Jesus, and faithful believers should respect those who have served God. Yet no biblical example teaches Christians to direct prayers to them. When people attempted acts of religious veneration toward Peter or an angel, they were redirected away from the creature and toward God (; ). Christians may ask living believers to pray with them while bringing worship and prayer directly to God through Christ.
