Life and Relationships

Why does the Bible call the body a temple, and does it affect daily choices?

Because the Holy Spirit dwells within believers, Scripture calls the body a temple, inviting care for physical health as part of honoring God, not as a means of earning salvation.

Paul's description of the body as a temple of the Holy Spirit reframes ordinary choices — diet, rest, exercise, and substance use — as spiritual matters rather than purely personal preferences. This is never presented as a system for earning God's favor; salvation remains a gift received by faith. Instead, caring for physical health flows from gratitude, recognizing that a clear mind and a well-cared-for body support a life of service, worship, and discernment. Scripture's health principles, such as the original diet given at creation and rest built into the weekly rhythm, still offer wisdom for whole-person well-being today.

Discipleship applies the gospel to the whole life: body, mind, relationships, work, finances, and worship. Healthy choices and faithful habits do not earn salvation; they are grateful stewardship of the life God has entrusted to us and practical ways to serve others.
