Communion remembers Christ's sacrifice, proclaims His death, renews faith in His grace, and points forward to His return.
Jesus gave the bread and cup as a memorial of His body given and His blood poured out for sinners. Communion is not an empty tradition; it invites believers to remember the cost of salvation, receive again the assurance of grace, examine the heart, and renew unity with other believers. Paul says that every time Christians eat the bread and drink the cup, they proclaim the Lord's death until He comes. This means Communion looks backward to the cross, inward to repentance and faith, outward to fellowship, and forward to Christ's return.
Salvation is entirely by grace through faith in Christ. His atoning sacrifice, heavenly ministry, and intercession are the foundation of assurance; obedience, Sabbath faithfulness, and loving service are the fruit of a redeemed life, never a way to purchase acceptance with God.
