Biblical explanation
The resurrection occurred on the first day of the week. The Gospels repeatedly identify it as the first day. Matthew 28:1; Mark 16:2; Luke 24:1; John 20:1. However, none of these passages says: "Therefore the Sabbath has been changed." John 20:19 records the disciples gathering on the first day, but the reason given is that they were behind closed doors because of fear of the Jews. Acts 20:7 describes a meeting on the first day of the week. The passage does not call the day holy or command Christians to observe it as a new Sabbath. Likewise, 1 Corinthians 16:2 instructs believers to set money aside on the first day. It does not say the first day became the Sabbath. The New Testament clearly mentions the first day of the week. It does not contain a command transferring the holiness of the seventh day to the first day.
