God speaks most reliably through Scripture, the life and teaching of Jesus, and the guidance of the Holy Spirit. His leading will never contradict the Bible or produce a character unlike Christ.

Biblical explanation

Jesus said that His sheep hear His voice and follow Him (). God has spoken through prophets and, most fully, through His Son (). The Bible is therefore the primary standard for recognizing God's will. The Holy Spirit brings Scripture to mind, convicts of sin, develops Christlike character, and guides believers into truth (; ; ).
