Work is part of God's original design, meant to be done with integrity and diligence as service to God, not merely to people, regardless of the type of job.
Work existed before sin entered the world, given to humanity as a meaningful part of caring for creation, not as a punishment. Paul instructs believers to work heartily, as if working for the Lord rather than merely for human supervisors, which reframes even ordinary tasks as an act of worship. Honesty, diligence, and fair treatment of others are consistently emphasized, along with a caution against greed or defining identity entirely by career success. Rest is also built into the pattern of work through the Sabbath, protecting against the exhaustion of nonstop labor.
Discipleship applies the gospel to the whole life: body, mind, relationships, work, finances, and worship. Healthy choices and faithful habits do not earn salvation; they are grateful stewardship of the life God has entrusted to us and practical ways to serve others.
